Come and discover this coastal fishing boat moored in the port of Lekeitio. It will help you get to know the way of life of the fishermen of yesterday and today.

It is a model of the boats normally used for fishing and is open during certain times of the year. This wooden boat, which has been used for fishing until recently, is an example of the most intimate piece of heritage that we still preserve. The boat, with a wooden hull, was built in the Lekeitio’s Murelaga shipyard and is 26.10 meters long and 6.75 meters wide. It is a magnificent way to get to know fishing techniques and the way of life of sea fishermen.

Until recently, fishermen in the port participated in the maintenance of the Ondarzabal boat: they carried out survey’s of the boat’s accessories to give recommendations about repairs and make visits more interesting.
In addition, recently they participated in the creation of an audiovisual presentation where they discussed their experiences on the boat and about the years they spent at sea. Given that said audiovisual presentation is part of the new museographical project, it has permitted access to new areas of the boat’s interior. These areas are the living quarters and the machine room, and they help to round out the visits.

This is a guided visit that explains fishing techniques and the lives of sailors at sea. Thanks to anecdotes about the cabins, the machine room, the deck… that sailors tell, you will get to know about and sense the hardships of nautical life.
